Voluntary Renunciation of Kenyan Citizenship
Section 10(1) of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act, 2011 provides that: –
A person who was a citizen of Kenya by birth and who ceased to be a citizen of Kenya because he or she acquired the citizenship of another country may apply in the prescribed manner, to the Cabinet Secretary to regain Kenyan citizenship.
The requirements for Voluntary Renunciation of Kenya citizenship include: –
- Submit the duly filled application form 6.
- The duly filled application Form 6 should be attested to by a Commissioner of Oaths or Notarized with official stamps and two processing fee payment receipts.
- Three (3) current, clear and un-mounted passport size photographs not less than 6 months.
- Note:
• No earing or headgear (no hats)
•Hair should be away from the face
•No eyeglasses
- Note:
- Original and copies of Kenyan passport and ID.
- Copy of other country’s passport or proof of citizenship.
- Copy of Birth Certificate.
- Verify that you have the required document/pre-requisites, and you meet the relevant criteria before you apply; and
- Complete application documents to be sent to the Embassy for processing via post or dropped at the Embassy reception during working hours
- The Processing and Issuance fee of 499 Euros Payable to:

- The duration for issuance of a renunciation certificate is one year or more on a case by case basis.
NOTE: All documents should be submitted in duplicate.
